Vegan food in Kandy

Kandy is on the most visited cities in Sri Lanka: it is a perfect starting point to the some of the major tourist sites of the island.

Fron here you can visit Dambulla and Sigirya, the temples of Matale and take the blue train to Ella.

The city in itself  is not that charming I have to say: the traffic is heavy, the buildings actually need some reformations and moving around can be quite a mess! Of course there a a cupole of things worth a visit, like the Tooth Temple, the giant Buddha on the hill and a small cave temple outside town.

But what will make want to stay and never leave is the variety and quality of vegan food in Kandy!

It was the best we tasted in all our trip to Sri Lanka, and also the cheapest 🙂

When I got to Ella at first I thought that I just wanted to relax and walk around the rice fields, climb Little Adam and Ella's rock.

Nevertheless, after the first long walk and the first trekking to Little Adam, I thought that I could do something different and look for a cultural activity.

At our guest house we saw a catalog with some organized day trips, and one caught my attention: the Buduruwagala Temple. As it looked a little expensive, I asked to the employee if it was possible to get to the temple with a public bus, and of course he said it wasn't....but guess what? It is actually really easy to go there by bus and you will pay only a few cents 🙂

One of Sri Lanka's main attraction is the abundance of national parks, and I couldn't miss visiting at least one of them.

In Borneo I could just book a house inside the park and hike its trails, but here in Sri Lanka I knew I had to book a safari, even if i wasn't sure whether I was going to like it or not... but the beauty of traveling is also discovering new activities.

The first thing was to choose the park, and then the agency with which I would book the safari.

When I planned my trip to the country I opted for the classical loop Airport -> Kandy -> Ella -> Mirissa -> Hikkaduwa -> Colombo, so the best thing for me was to visit Udawalawe or Yala on my way from Ella to the beach... let's see how I decided which one to choose.
